TroTro Diaries Sanitation Project

The TroTro Diaries Sanitation project leveraged the power of social media and community to help drive change in the community both online and offline. Through this project members based in Ghana and across the world collaborated to help improve the sanitation situation in Ghana and was featured on national media (the KSM Show)

Having identified that majority of the littering in Ghana happens at various trotro stations (bus terminals) and on our roads; members of our community were put into various teams. To be part of the project, each member had to take the i-commit pledge, which was a pledge not to litter the environment.

Once that was done, members were put into diverse teams which were made up of members  based in and outside Ghana. Members brainstormed on how to improve the sanitation situation, leveraging insights from members who were based in other countries to find out about existing solutions in their countries.

Each team then adopted a trotro station (bus terminal) where they run various community based educational campaigns targeted at drivers, bus conductors and hawkers. That was followed up by clean up exercises and co
